GET INVOLVED

Very few people in the UK know of the CGAN attempt to prosecute senior politicians and the UKYCC/SCS case at the International Criminal Court against the board members of BP Plc. See: –

https://www.climatecrime.info/

Not only do we need everyone to know, we also need the word spread to every nation that is a signatory to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. If key lawyers and campaigners in the 123 nations that are signatories to the Rome statute know that we have proven that international criminal law can be used to tackle climate crime, we can secure dynamic action in 123 countries to stop climate breakdown.

That’s where you come in.

We want you to email your MP, local/national newspaper, TV news broadcaster, and also contact key groups you know who may be able to progress this further. For example, if you attend/work at a university, or participate in a campaign group or wider civic society, we want you to inform that body of what has happened and ask that this be discussed by the whole organisation, with steps agreed on how to secure the prosecution of the key climate criminals. A crucial step would be for the organisation you attend to commit to informing bodies abroad that might be able to commence proceedings in their own country or refer cases against major polluters to the International Criminal Court.

Each email has to be suitably worded. To help get you started here’s an email for your MP:

Dear xxxxxxx

I am writing to inform you that the group Climate Genocide Act Now has sought the criminal prosecution of senior politicians who contribute to mass loss of life and appalling suffering caused by the policies that drive climate breakdown. In addition, the UK Youth Climate Coalition and Students for Climate Solutions have submitted a case against BP Plc to the International Criminal Court.

Both cases depend upon provisions in international criminal law and UK legislation that allow for the prosecution of mass killing and other harms in cases of ‘oblique intent’. The relevant section is Article 30.2(b) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

Following detailed correspondence with a specialist division within the UK police, it has become clear that there is no lawful impediment to prosecution. In light of the fact that Parliament enacted the International Criminal Court Act 2001 to stop one section of society from killing or inflicting appalling suffering on another (the young) and the legislation was also intended to stop our nation from committing crimes against humanity and genocide against other nations, you will want to be aware that, so far, the police are refusing to act upon UK legislation. It is not for the police to pick and choose which pieces of legislation it will enforce and those it won’t.

I ask please that you seek a detailed explanation from the Home Secretary.

Please also note that 123 nations are signatories to the International Criminal Court, and ought to have similar legislation on their statute books. That being the case, there are 123 nations that have the legislation necessary to stop the policies that drive climate breakdown, kill hundreds of thousands of people every year and cause the other extreme sufferings identified in the legislation. I therefore ask that you instruct the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to write to all 123 nations asking that their police be requested to commence a criminal investigation into those who may be responsible for policies that contribute to these appalling crimes.

CASE PROVEN

I look forward to hearing from you.
